Open Field test, circular arena
TS0501

 

The open field test is a generally accepted paradigm for measurement of explorative and locomotor behavior in animals. It allows the responses to new and unfamiliar environments as well as habituation to the environment to be evaluated. Rats and mice tend to avoid brightly illuminated open spaces, so the open field environment acts as an anxiogenic stimulus and allows the measurement of anxiety-induced behaviors.

Available for rats or mice.

Material

The arena is made of expanded PVC which is non-absorbent to the odours and easy to clean. Available in different colours: white, grey or black.

Key features

The arena is equipped with hooks to hang it on a wall when not in use.

If required, the floor of the arena can be divided into sectors of equal square to facilitate visual scoring of animal locomotor activity.

The holes in the floor which allow to combine the open field and the hole-board tests are available upon request.

The arena can be raised above the floor using a supporting cart (TS0503).
